Bowden Kirk has a long history with parts of the present building dating back to the 15th century. This relates to elements of the north facing wall. Most other parts of the building result from re-building work in the 17th, 18th and 20th centuries.
The Bowden Kirk's origins can be traced back to the 12th century when a Christian presence was established in Bowden by the monks from Kelso Abbey.
